Location: “Jain Temple Subai, Ancient Digambar Jain Temple, Nandapur Rd, near Rani Duduma Waterfall, Muliaput, Odisha 764037”

The Subai Jain Temples are located around 10 KMs from Nandapur and around 34 KMs from koraput town. Around 5 Jain temples (originally 6) are standing here dedicated to Mahavira, Parshvanatha, Rishabhanatha, and other pilgrims. Besides this an image of a 4-armed Tara (Jaina yaksha) adorned by bangles also stands in the cell, which recalled the place not only to be the center of Jainism but also of Tantrick Pitha.

And ancient temple, it was built by Jain gemstone traders who used to come to Koraput for trading. A shiva temple near the complex is also a popular tourist attraction.

The 5 Jain temples are believed to be built around 4th century AD. Initially built with a Triratha architecture, having amalaka, the door jambs are having carvings of rosette enclosed with dotted square. One of the temples is famous for its rare image of Tirthankaras.

Another significant feature of the temple is the image of Rishabhanatha in padmasan dhyana posture, surrounded by other Tirthankaras.

How to Reach:

By Air: Nearest airport is at Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) 171 KMs away which is well connected with New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Nagpur by going flights. Within Orissa, Bhubaneshwar Airport is around 483 KMs.

By Road: Nearest bus stop is Sunabeda, around 17 KMs from the temple complex.

By Train: Nearest railway station is Koraput around 35 KMs from the temple complex

Stay Options:

For the next 2 days, we were moving from Rayagada towards Koraput and Malkangiri while covering places around. Staying options are available at Jeypore or Malkangiri, but our route was like, for Jeypore we had to move to a different direction. There is a place called Damanjodi, where there are couple of staying options. We stayed in a new just started hotel: Hotel Lemon Royal, which is quite good at a descent cost too. Food is good too.

Parking and Photography:

There is quite a space outside the complex where vehicles can be easily parked.

There is no restriction to photography. Drones can be easily used too.

Major Festival:

Parab Festival once in a year.

Festival of festivals PARAB – an annual tribal festival organized by the District Council of Culture, Koraput is a gala event of the state, organized in the month of November every year all over the district. The whole month of parab witnesses events on sports culture, seminar mountain trekking, boat race and artists camp. On a third day from all over the country are staged on one platform, with crafts mela and exhibitions in the Koraput Parab ground.
