Location:
“Ammakund,
F65W+8WR, Odisha 764042”
At a distance of around 70 KMs from
Malkangiri district, is situated the beautiful Amakund waterfall. Through the
serene jungles and eastern ghats of Jeypore, Amakund is situated in a hilly
place having a perennial waterfall which creates a pool of crystal clear water.
The waterfall is surrounded by dense
forest and small hillocks. When we visited the fall, there was some road
construction going on in the last 200 meters. The vehicle could not proceed
beyond 200 meters, after which it’s a way down around 60 stairs to the fall.
There are lots of fishes in the kund and
the water is so clean that the fishes are beautifully visible from naked eyes.
According to legend: The fishes found in kund are quite friendly to the human
being and are believed to be the form of Lord Vishnu in ” Matsya Avatar”.
Fishing in that place is not practiced according to the belief of the local
people as well as the visitors. Visitors can enjoy their stay at this place by
feeding the fishes. This area is surrounded by dense forest and small hillocks.

Stay Options:
For the next 2 days, we
were moving from Rayagada towards Koraput and Malkangiri while covering places
around. Staying options are available at Jeypore or Malkangiri, but our route
was like, for Jeypore we had to move to a different direction. There is a place
called Damanjodi, where there are couple of staying options. We stayed in a new
just started hotel: Hotel Lemon Royal, which is quite good at a descent cost
too. Food is good too. If staying at Rayagada, then the town itself has many
hotels to stay, so stay is not a problem at all.
Location: “Hotel Lemon Royal, Bhejaput Main Rd, Bhejaput, Damanjodi,
Odisha 763008”
Malkangiri has few
hotel options too and one can plan on to stay there too.
Parking and Photography:
There is no dedicated
parking for the waterfalls, but parking won’t be an issue around 100 meters
before the beginning of the stairs
Photography is allowed.
At the waterfalls, drone can be used too. Be careful while using drone as its
entirely forest area.
Timings:
Monday to Sunday: 24 hours. There is no restriction in
visiting, but after dark it would become a bit scary as its completely forest.
