Siddeshwara Temple is located in Hanamkonda at a distance of about 4 Km from the city centre of Warangal and 142 Km from Hyderabad. The temple is also known as Paschimdwara Mukha Temple because of its entrance gate facing west. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva like many other temples of South India. This is one of the most ancient temples of the Telangana region and holds a significant place in the hearts of people not because of its religious importance but also for its architecture style. It is one of the most important temple for all the devotees of Lord Shiva and for all the people who have interest in architecture and ancient history.

History
Siddeshwara temple has a rich ancient history associated with it. The temple was built in 3rd century A.D. Even though built in a time period when life was totally different from today’s world, people fascinate about the architecture of this temple a lot.

Here, Revana Siddeshwara, who was thought to be an incarnation of Sri Renukacharya, performed tapasya. When the temple was in ruins, his descendants reinstalled the deity. The Kakatiya rulers worshipped here, and since then, the descendants of Revana Siddeshwara have served as the temple’s priests and caretakers.

Legend

The legend say that sage Appa Swamy who started doing penance in a cave near the temple.Lord Shiva was deeply impressed and appeared.On the request of Saint Appa Swamy Lord Shiva Manifested.There are caves where sages Appa Swamy did his penance.

The sthala Purana states that Mahadev took the form of Sri Siddeshwara Swamy, also known as Swayambhu Shivalingam, following years of tapasya by Sandilya Maharshi.

One of the ancient temples and situated very near to Padmakshi Temple and just adjascent to Harsiddhi Kala Bhairva Temple, the front of the temple you have the idol of Kalbhairava and inside the temple you find the shrine of Siddheshwar. There is a small pathway on the left of the temple which leads you to a park with idols of Shaivite gods installed and there is lot of greenery. Peace and Serenity pervade the atmosphere.Do not miss this temple if you are on a tour to Warangal.

There is also a temple at the hill top on the right side of the temple, but this one is the original ancient temple.

It is believed that rishis and devatas perform pooja here every night between midnight and 3 am, and the Pranava naadam (sacred sound) can be heard by enlightened beings. Sri Chandrashekara Saraswati Swamiji of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham emphasized the greatness of this temple, noting that devotees’ wishes are fulfilled here. The temple also has a connection to nine aushadha siddhis who performed tapasya and were blessed by Siddeshwara Swamy.

 

Timings:

Monday to Sunday: 06:00 am to 09:45 am

The temple at hillock remains open throughout the day.

Parking and Photography:

Parking can be done outside the temple, there is ample space.

Photography is allowed, but not inside the sanctum sanctorum. Drones can be used from the hillock adjacent.

 

How to Reach:

By Rail: The temple is around 5KMs from Warangal railway station. Being in the city, autos and taxis are easily available

By Road: If you are in Warangal, use any local mode of transport

By Air: Nearest Airport is Hyderabad around 80 KMs
