The Sri Prasanna
Chennakesava Swamy Temple in Ongole is a well-preserved ancient temple with a
rich history dating back to the end of the 16th century. The temple, dedicated
to Lord Vishnu, offers visitors a peaceful and sacred experience. The premises
house various small temples, including those of Sri Bhaktanjaneya, Sri
Venkatesa, Sri Rama Vasundhara, and Sri Satyanarayana Swamy.
Situated opposite the
temple is the Shri Veera Anjaneya temple Kesava Swamy petta and the Ammavari
temple together, which are also beautiful.
Ragupathi raju and
Raghava raju of vijayanagar dynasty local kings of Ongole built the Shri
Prasanna temple . Nice and very peaceful temple and this is a very old temple .
This temple had a long history to built in the hill which are chennakesava
swamy temple and lord shiva venkateshvara swamy temple means lord shiva and
lord vishnu temple are located side by side
These temples are so famous in ongole and on festivals occasions
classical dance performance are done in temple.
During the end of the 16th century, Rama
Bhadra Raju and Raghupathy raju, the long term ruled-kings for the Vijayanagara
Kingdom were ruling at Ongole. These kings were ardent devotees of Lord
Venkateshwara. Hence they installed the idol of the Lord in their fort itself
and named the Lord Chennakesava Swamy.
To reduce the security risk from predators, the king
with the Pandits and Vaasthu experts decided to build the temple on the hill of
Ongole and was named Kesavadhri.
The king invited the required priests from Sri Rangam
to commence the poojas in the inaugural ceremony of the Lord Chennakesava
Temple as per the Vaikanasha agama tradition during the year 1712 CE.
Idols of goddess Rajyalakshmi, Andal, Lord
Sathyanarayana, Lord Prasanna Anjaneya, Sanathana Venugopala Swamy,
Saptamutrakas and Naaga Devatas were installed in the temple.
